Man dies in crash off I-75 in northern Hillsborough

TAMPA — A man died Sunday afternoon in a car crash near the Interstate 75 exit to Morris Bridge Road.

Aaron Madueke, 59, was driving north on I-75 about 1:09 p.m. in a 2000 Honda Accord when he exited onto Morris Bridge Road, Hillsborough County sheriff's officials said. He failed to stop at a stop sign at the end of the exit ramp. A 2001 Ford Expedition traveling west then struck the Honda, officials said.

Madueke, of Tampa, died at the scene. His daughter, Mary Madueke, 14, was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

The driver of the Expedition, Jack Smail, 52, of Valrico was uninjured. His wife, Kimberly Smail, 50, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.

An investigation is ongoing.
