Man dies, woman injured in east Hillsborough crash

TAMPA — A man was killed and a woman seriously injured Monday night in a crash on State Road 60 in eastern Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Prisco Teodoro-Eligio, 34, and Fernanda Faustino Ortiz, 29, both of Mulberry, were riding west in a 2000 Mazda MPV van about 11:18 p.m. on SR 60 west of Bugg Road, troopers said. The van veered right and drove off the road, colliding with a concrete culvert, then overturning before slamming into a tree.

Teodoro-Eligio and Ortiz were not wearing seat belts, troopers said, and were thrown from the van. Teodoro-Eligio died at the scene. Ortiz was taken to Tampa General Hospital.

Troopers were unable to determine who was driving the van at the time of the crash or why it left the road. An investigation remained ongoing Tuesday.
