Man found dead after van fire in Clearwater

CLEARWATER — A man was found dead in a van Sunday night after it crashed and went up in flames.

The victim was driving a 1999 Chrysler van west on Lakeview Road about 9:30 p.m., according to Clearwater police. He lost control of the vehicle just after Prospect Avenue, leaving the road and hitting a fence, power pole wires and a tree. The van caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames, police said.

Clearwater Fire & Rescue put out the fire.

The man was declared dead at the scene. He had not been publicly identified early Monday, pending notification of his family.
