ST. PETE BEACH — A man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries after his boat crashed into a rock jetty Saturday afternoon, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

Officials said Stephen Watkins, 53, of Treasure Island was driving a 31-foot Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser around 2:30 p.m. near 7308 Sunset Way when the boat struck the rock jetty as he entered Blind's Pass. Watkins told authorities the boat's steering had stopped working. There were no other passengers on the boat, and no other boats were involved, officials said.

Watkins was taken to Palms of Pasadena Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
