DADE CITY — A man was killed Monday afternoon when he was struck by a train near Martin Luther King Boulevard.

He was identified as Rodney Alton McFadden, 40, of 14311 Delmar St.

Dade City police Chief Ray Velboom said a southbound train was stopped about 1:15 p.m. on the tracks that run along the U.S. 98 bypass, waiting for a northbound train to pass. McFadden, walking west, climbed between two cars of the southbound train, and when he jumped down onto the crossing he was struck by the northbound train, witnesses told police.

Velboom said it appeared to be an accident.

"I think he just didn't hear the other train coming," he said.
