Man killed in Land O'Lakes crash Sunday

LAND O'LAKES — A Lutz man is dead after, troopers say, he ran a stop sign early Sunday morning and was hit by another car.

James Gerald Hannon, 53, of Lutz, was headed west on Tower Road approaching U.S. 41 in his Cadillac DeVille, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. At the same time, Christopher Michael Horn, 34, of Tampa, was going north on U.S. 41 in a Honda Civic.

At about 3:57 a.m., the report states, Hannon passed a stop sign and crossed into northbound lanes of U.S. 41 where the front end of Horn's car connected with the driver's side of Hannon's.

The impact sent Hannon's car to the west side of the paved median, facing northeast. Horn ended up facing west on the other side of the median.

Hannon was taken to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point where he died from his injuries.
