Man killed in Lutz crash Friday evening

A Lutz man died Friday evening after turning into the path of an oncoming vehicle on State Road 54, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gregory Michael Palmer, 61 was driving a car west on State Road 54 at about 6:50 p.m. when he tried to turn left onto Oak Grove Boulevard, FHP said.

Palmer turned into the path of a sport-utility vehicle driven by Beth Hummel, who was traveling east on State Road 54, FHP said.

The collision caused Hummel's SUV to overturn.

Palmer was taken to Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel, where he later died, FHP said. Hummel, 45, of Lutz, and her 14-year-old passenger had minor injuries.

Everyone involved were wearing seat belts, FHP said.

The crash is under investigation.
