Man killed in Pinellas Park industrial accident

PINELLAS PARK — A 25-year-old man was killed in an industrial accident Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened about 3:50 p.m. at USP Structural Connectors, 11910 62nd St. N.

Pinellas Park Police said USP employee Eric Joseph Kanganis was using a forklift to unpack 5,000-pound rolls of steel. While standing on the forklift, Kanganis cut a steel band that released tension on the rolls and caused one of them to pin him against the forklift.

He was killed instantly, police said.

Police said he had worked at the company for three years and lived in Tarpon Springs.

Police said the work Kanganis was performing was routine for him. They are investigating what went wrong Tuesday.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration also had been notified, police said.
