Man on motorcycle dies in Tampa crash

TAMPA — A man died Saturday after his motorcycle hit a car and he was thrown into an enclosed bus stop, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Gabriel A. Rivera, 29, of Tampa was driving northbound on N Himes Avenue near W Hamilton Street at 50 miles per hour, the Sheriff's Office said. He drove left of the double yellow line, and tried to pass Blanca I. Sanchez-Diaz, 51, of Tampa, who was also driving northbound on N Himes.

Rivera's motorcycle hit the front of Sanchez-Diaz's car as she slowed to make a left turn on W Hamilton Street, officials said. Rivera was thrown from the motorcycle and into the glass enclosure of a HART Line bus stop on the corner.

He was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet, the Sheriff's Office said.

No charges have been filed pending investigation and the results of toxicology reports.
