Michigan man killed in motorcycle crash in Hernando County

BROOKSVILLE — A 66-year-old Michigan man was killed Monday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a truck north of Brooksville, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported.

Troopers said the accident happened about 3:30 p.m. on Lake Lindsey Road east of Ponce De Leon Boulevard.

According to the accident report, Robert Thomas Beitel was on a 2001 Harley Davidson heading west on Lake Lindsey when he lost control of the bike going around a curve. The bike crossed into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2006 Chevrolet driven by Mark Milburn Mann, 37, of Tavares.

The motorcycle and truck collided headfirst, the report stated. Beitel, who wasn't wearing a helmet, was thrown off the bike.

Troopers said Beitel is from Washington Township, Mich. Mann suffered minor injuries.

The crash remained under investigation Monday night.
