Middle school siblings hit crossing Bearss in fair condition

TAMPA — A brother and sister who were struck by a car as they crossed Bearss Avenue outside the crosswalk Friday afternoon are in fair condition at St. Joseph's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the hospital said Saturday.

The students, 12-year-old Abner Brizula and 15-year-old Nahomy Brizula, were in a group of about 30 students from Buchanan Middle School walking on the sidewalk when several decided to cross Bearss at Monet Drive, police said.

The siblings were struck by a Honda Civic driven by Juana Zurbana, 19, of Tampa. Zurbana was cited for driving with a suspended driver's license.
