Fitzgerald teacher charged with DUI
Police arrested a Morgan Fitzgerald Middle School teacher they said drove under the influence and caused a multi-vehicle crash on Labor Day.
Lisa Micalizzi, 35, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail on Monday evening on a charge of misdemeanor DUI involving property damage.
Clearwater police officers said they stopped Micalizzi about 5:30 p.m. Monday at N Fort Harrison Avenue and Fairmont Street because she was at fault in a five-vehicle crash, according to an arrest affidavit.
She refused to take a test that would assess her blood-alcohol level, the report says. An officer noted, however, that Micalizzi had poor balance, bloodshot and watery eyes and smelled of alcohol.
Other details about the accident were not available Monday night.
Micalizzi is the coordinator for the middle school's gifted program, according to the Largo school's website. She was being held in jail in lieu of $500 bail Monday night.
