Accident briefly blocks Central Avenue intersection in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — Two drivers are okay after their cars collided Tuesday morning in St. Petersburg.

Two cars reportedly crashed around 8 a.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and 34th Street.

Officials said the crash was minor and there weren't any serious injuries. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was hospitalized.

The crash scene, which blocked the intersection, was cleared by about 9 a.m., officials said.

    TAMPA — Buoyed by the award of an additional $3.7 million in state funding, Eckerd Kids plans to hire more social workers to ease the strain on Hillsborough County's overburdened child welfare system.

    The child welfare system in Hillsborough County will get an additional $3 million in funding for the upcoming fiscal  year beginning July 1, according to Eckerd Kids, the agency contracted to run the system by the state.
