Motorcyclist dies in afternoon crash in St. Pete

ST. PETERSBURG — A Minnesota man riding a motorcycle was killed Friday afternoon after he collided with a pickup on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street S, police said.

Robert J. Ross, 27, was riding a 2001 Suzuki north when he collided with a southbound 1996 GMC Sonoma pickup that was making a left turn into a convenience store parking lot in the 1400 block, police said.

Ross, of St. Paul, Minn., was pronounced dead at Bayfront Medical Center about three hours after the 4:50 p.m. crash, St. Petersburg police said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the pickup, Eugene Lee Flournory, 59, of St. Petersburg, was taken to Bayfront with minor injuries.

The crash was under investigation Friday night.
