Motorcyclist dies in New Port Richey crash

NEW PORT RICHEY — A motorcyclist died late Sunday after running a red light and crashing into a car, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gregory David Merrill, 38, who was northbound on Little Road, ran the red light at River Crossing Boulevard, troopers said. Merrill's motorcycle collided with the left side of a 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, and the impact killed him.

Amanda Mary Clark, 22, a passenger on Merrill's 2000 Honda motorcycle, was treated at Bayfront Medical Center for critical injuries.

Javan Cristian Aldridge, 32, the driver of the Nissan, was treated for minor injuries at Community Hospital.

Aldridge wore a seat belt. Neither Clark or Merrill wore a helmet.
