Motorcyclist dies in St. Petersburg crash

ST. PETERSBURG — A motorcyclist died Friday night after he turned into an oncoming pickup truck on 54th Avenue N, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Ward Fouts Balcerzak, 52, of St. Petersburg, was driving a motorcycle eastbound on 54th Avenue N at about 9:46 p.m., FHP said, when he tried to make a left turn onto Haines Road.

A truck driven by Lanard M. Chance, 43, of St. Petersburg, that was traveling west on 54th Avenue struck Balcerzak on his right side, FHP said.

The motorcycle came to a rest on its side just east of the Haines Road intersection.

Balcerzak, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center where he later died, FHP said.

No charges have been filed and the case is under investigation.
