Motorcyclist dies on I-275 in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG – A 44-year-old man died Tuesday night when he lost control of his motorcycle on Interstate 275 and crashed into a concrete barrier, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Shannon Michael Gardner of St. Petersburg was heading north and approaching the entrance ramp to I-375 when he tried to pass another motorcycle, according to the FHP. Gardner did not make it around a curve on the ramp, smashing into a concrete barrier at about 10:30 p.m.

He was thrown from his motorcycle, the FHP said, and later died at Bayfront Medical Center. Troopers said Gardner was wearing a helmet.
