A motorcyclist is in critical condition Monday after he lost control of his Harley Davidson in Safety Harbor on Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Stephen W. Dortch, 42, of Safety Harbor, was traveling eastbound on State Road 580 in the center lane approaching Rigsby Lane, the FHP said, when he lost control as the roadway curved, just east of McMullen Booth Road.

The motorcycle ran into the center median, overturned and came to a full stop in the inside lane, the FHP said.

Dortch was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition, the FHP said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, troopers said, and Dortch was not wearing a helmet.
