Motorcyclist who hit pedestrian has died, FHP says

SEMINOLE — A motorcyclist injured Friday when he hit a 75-year-old pedestrian trying to cross Starkey Road has died, according to the Florida HighWay Patrol.

Randel Allen Toombs, 28, of Largo, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition after the 7 p.m. accident. He died at the hospital later Friday, the FHP said on Sunday.

The pedestrian, Lowell Schissel of Largo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the FHP, Schissel and his wife were crossing Starkey near Park Boulevard when Schissel was struck by Toombs.

The couple was not using a crosswalk and may have violated Toombs' right of way, the FHP said.

An investigation is ongoing.
