Moving truck fire backs up traffic at busy Hernando intersection

Times staff

BROOKSVILLE -- A burning truck loaded with toys and family belongings snarled traffic at one of the Hernando County's busiest intersections Wednesday.

The fire on Cortez Boulevard and the Suncoast Parkway around 2:15 p.m. led authorities to divert traffic onto side roads around the congested intersection.

The truck was hauling the belongings of a family when one of the movers flicked a cigarette out the window and it landed among cardboard boxes and caught fire, according to authorities. No one was injured.

Firefighters had the blaze under control and traffic resumed flowing in a short while.
