Moving van crash on I-75 kills one, injures another

SAN ANTONIO — A U-Haul truck skidded off Interstate 75 near the State Road 52 exit during rush hour Friday, crashed in the woods and caught on fire, according to Pasco County emergency dispatchers.

One person was trapped inside the cab and died. Another was flown by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa. No information on the cause of the crash or the victims was available Friday night.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. The southbound lanes of I-75 were closed while the medical helicopter landed to get the patient. Emergency dispatchers said drivers detouring off I-75 caused traffic on State Road 52 to back up all the way to U.S. 41, nearly 11 miles from the Interstate.
