New Port Richey motorcyclist killed in Palm Harbor crash

PALM HARBOR — A 48-year-old New Port Richey man was killed when a car rammed his motorcycle on McMullen-Booth Road on Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Duane Murphy, 48, was going north on McMullen-Booth Road near Tarpon Woods Boulevard at about 11:45 a.m. when his 2005 Kawasaki was cut off by a 1995 Honda Accord, a Highway Patrol crash report states.

The car was driven by Leo Gilghrest, 18, of Oldsmar, who was southbound on McMullen-Booth when he turned left onto Tarpon Woods Boulevard, the report said.

Gilghrest left the scene, troopers said. The car was found abandoned at a park, and Gilghrest was located at an Oldsmar address, they said. A passenger in his car, Rolliston Nurse, 18, of Palm Harbor, was still with him. They were not injured.

Troopers arrested Gilghrest on charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving a death and turning left in front of approaching traffic.
