No injuries in Brandon school bus crash

BRANDON — A Hillsborough County school bus was involved in an crash at Causeway Boulevard and Providence Road on Wednesday morning.

No students were injured, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

A vehicle ran a red light at the intersection, missing the bus but striking a vehicle next to the bus. The bus driver stopped short to avoid colliding with the vehicle that ran the light.

When the bus stopped short, a Ford F-150 pickup rear-ended it.

The sheriff's office is handling the situation as two separate crashes.

The drivers in the first crash had minor injuries and declined treatment at the scene. No one involved in the school bus accident were injured.

The bus stood in the middle of the intersection for more than an hour as authorities worked the scene. Students were initially kept on the bus, but were eventually removed and were waiting for a for another bus to take them to school.

The wreck backed up traffic in all directions. Only one lane in each direction on Causeway Boulevard was open between 6:30 a.m. and 8 a.m., and the southbound lanes of Providence Road were completely blocked at the intersection.

The accident was cleared after 8 a.m. and all lanes reopened.
