Odessa man, 26, dies in Clearwater motorcycle crash

CLEARWATER — A 26-year-old Odessa man died Sunday night after losing control of his motorcycle on the Memorial Causeway Bridge, officials said.

James E. Williams was driving a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle east on the bridge at about 7:25 p.m. He was speeding, police said.

As he crested the bridge and began to descend, Williams lost control of the bike and drifted into a concrete median separating eastbound and westbound traffic, police said.

Williams was thrown from the motorcycle and flew across the median into a road sign, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several lanes of traffic were closed for nearly four hours as officials investigated the crash. The roadway was reopened around 11:15 p.m., according to Clearwater Police reports.

No further information was available early Monday morning.
