A portion of Park Boulevard was closed for more than two hours Friday evening after a Pinellas Park police officer was involved in a crash caused by another driver, police said.

The officer was driving a marked police cruiser east on Park about 6:30 when the driver of a westbound vehicle tried to turn south onto 46th Street, resulting in a collision, according to a Pinellas Park Police news release. The driver and the officer, whose names were not released, were taken to local hospitals for evaluation.

The crash caused significant damage to both vehicles and prompted authorities to close all of Park's eastbound lanes, the release said.

Police do not suspect drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The driver will be issued a citation for violating the right of way, police said.

The road was expected to reopen by 9 p.m.
