One dead in I-75 pileup east of Tampa

TAMPA — A multi-car wreck on Interstate 75 east of Tampa Tuesday night left one person dead and two injured, authorities said.

The crash happened about 9:30 p.m. on southbound I-75 just south of E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. The wreck involved five or six vehicles, Fire Rescue said, including a semitrailer truck.

One of the vehicles was engulfed in flames when Fire Rescue arrived, and a person inside that vehicle had died.

Two people in other vehicles were transported to hospitals in fair condition, Fire Rescue said.

The road was closed near the crash scene while the Florida Highway Patrol investigated.
