One dead, two injured in crash near Tampa

TAMPA — A man was killed and two others injured in a crash on Gunn Highway north of Copeland Road on Sunday morning.

A 2003 Pontiac Grand Am was northbound on Gunn Highway at about 9:30 a.m. when it rotated and crossed into the southbound lane, where it hit a 2008 Infinity, according to sheriff's officials.

A passenger in the Pontiac identified as Cody Porter, whose age and address were not given, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and pronounced dead at 4 p.m.

Investigators were trying to determine if Porter was wearing a seat belt, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter.

The Pontiac's driver, Ashleigh Gordon, 18, of New Port Richey, lost control of the car while negotiating a left-hand curve, authorities said. Gordon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was listed in stable condition at St. Joseph's.

The driver of the Infinity, Donald Watts of New Port Richey, was also listed in stable condition at St. Joseph's.

An investigation is ongoing.
