One person seriously hurt in St. Pete crash

ST. PETERSBURG — One person was seriously injured in a crash involving a car and a moving van Friday night.

The crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of 31st Street S. St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue crews arrived on scene and discovered a car underneath the moving van. The car's driver was trapped inside.

Firefighters extricated the driver, who was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with traumatic injuries, fire officials said.

Hazardous materials crews also worked to contain about 30 gallons of diesel fuel that leaked from the van. About half the fuel drained into storm sewers, officials said.

Two people who were in the moving van were treated at the scene. The names of the people involved were not released Friday night.

St. Petersburg police were investigating.
