Overturned truck blocked traffic on U.S. 41 in Pasco

LAND O'LAKES — Traffic on U.S. 41 was snarled for hours Tuesday afternoon after a collision knocked a Mack truck onto its side, blocking two northbound lanes.

The accident happened about 2:30 p.m. just north of State Road 54. Both drivers walked away with minor injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Albert Nelson, 73, pulled out of a driveway onto U.S. 41 — and into the path of the Mack truck. The truck driver, Juan Perez Jr., 33, swerved to avoid the sedan, but still hit Nelson's car and lost control of his own truck, FHP said.

Nelson's Pontiac veered across the southbound lanes and into a ditch before hitting a light pole. Perez's truck skidded counterclockwise then tipped onto its right side, FHP said.

Nelson, of Land O'Lakes, was cited for violation of right of way.
