Palm Harbor man killed crossing U.S. 19 in Holiday

HOLIDAY — A 50-year-old pedestrian was killed early Wednesday crossing U.S. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Paul L. Conklin was crossing the highway near Panorama Avenue about 1:30 a.m. when a Jeep struck him in the center northbound lane, FHP said. He was not in a crosswalk.

Conklin, of Palm Harbor, died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep, Kaila M. Jean, 20, of Holiday, was not injured.

The crash closed part of U.S. 19 for about an hour and a half.

FHP is still investigating the crash and encourages any witnesses to call Cpl. Toni Shields at (352) 797-5737.
