Pasco woman in Valentine's Day crash dies

Editor's note: On May 11, 2016, the prosecutor dismissed all criminal charges against Joseph Montalbano. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement lab report revealed no drugs in Montalbano's urine sample. A breathalyzer test at the time of his arrest was negative for alcohol. Montalbano paid a $187 fine for careless driving.

TRINITY — A woman who was injured in a Valentine's Day crash died Thursday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Isabella Montalbano, 85, of New Port Richey, was sitting in the passenger seat of a 1994 Jeep sport utility vehicle driven by her son, Joseph Montalbano, 60, on the evening of Feb. 14. The Jeep was in a parking space outside the Publix at the intersection of Seven Springs Boulevard and Mitchell Boulevard, troopers said.

Joseph Montalbano, also of New Port Richey, drove forward over a raised curb and into a light pole. He was ticketed for careless driving and arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and driving under the influence involving property damage. He was released from Pasco County jail Feb. 15 in lieu of $200 bail.
