Passenger injured Tuesday in Clearwater crash dies

Times staff

CLEARWATER — The passenger injured in a two-vehicle crash that shut part of Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard Tuesday morning has died.

Edwardo Garcia Caraballo, 66, of Clearwater died Tuesday afternoon at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, authorities said.

Caraballo was the passenger in a white 1997 Saturn being driven west by Lidia M. Garcia, 60, of Clearwater. About 9 a.m. Tuesday, Garcia turned south onto Hercules Avenue and into the path of a 1999 grey Chevy Lumina that was eastbound on Gulf-to-Bay, police said.

Both Garcia and Caraballo were flown to Bayfront, where authorities said Garcia remains in critical condition.

Police identified the driver of the Chevy Lumina as Susan H. Romano, 44, of Clearwater. She was not injured.

The crash blocked traffic at the intersection for about two and a half hours.
