Police car crash blocks traffic on Ulmerton Road

CLEARWATER — An accident involving a St. Petersburg police car blocked traffic at Ulmerton Road and 34th Street N early Thursday, but officers cleared the crash in time for rush hour.

The crash occurred at about 5:20 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Robert James Deluca, a 54-year-old Charlotte, N.C., resident, turned right onto Ulmerton Road as the officer was driving by, the patrol said.

The 32-year-old officer, Michael J. Romano, had the green light, and he hit the back of Deluca's Toyota Corolla.

No one was taken to a hospital, the patrol stated. Deluca was cited for disobeying a traffic control device.
