TAMPA — A Casselberry man is dead after he was bit by a car as he crossed a poorly lit street around midnight Saturday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Humphrey Felipa, 39, was crossing Bearss Avenue E, near Livingston Avenue, while not in a crosswalk, when he was hit by a 2000 Lincoln Navigator. The driver, Anthony Walter Chaves, 26, of Tampa, remained on the scene, deputies said.

Investigators said it appears drugs and alcohol were not a factor.

Felipa was transported to Tampa's Florida Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
