Pedestrian dies after being struck by SUV in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — A 51-year-old St. Petersburg man was killed Friday after stepping into the path of a sport utility vehicle on 54th Avenue North, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The man, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of his relatives, stepped into the crosswalk against the traffic signal at 28th Street about 11 a.m. and was struck by a Ford Explorer travelling west in the outside lane of 54th Avenue, troopers said.

The man was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he died from his injuries.

The driver of the Explorer, 44-year-old Tabitha Lashay McMillian of Atlanta, was not injured or charged in the incident.
