TAMPA — A University of South Florida student was killed Friday morning in a motorcycle accident on Fletcher Avenue, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The crash took place about 10:19 a.m. Deputies said Andres Alfredo Castillo, 22, of Tampa, was riding his Kawasaki Ninja 636 motorcycle eastbound past the USF campus, in the left lane of E Fletcher Avenue.

Then a Hyundai Elantra driven by Shavarra R. Cobb, 32, depthen turned left and cut into his path, deputies said. They said Castillo braked and laid his motorcycle on the side, but still struck the right rear of the Elantra near the intersection of N 50th Street.

His motorcycle continued spiralling down Fletcher for several feet while Cobb pulled over and ran to aid Castillo. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The Sheriff's Office closed affected portions of Fletcher Avenue and 50th Street for nearly three hours Friday afternoon to investigate the crash. That investigation is still ongoing.
