RUSKIN — A pedestrian was killed while crossing the street early Thursday, officials said.
The pedestrian, who was not immediately identified, was crossing U.S. 41 near the intersection of Nundy Avenue about 6:43 a.m.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the pedestrian did not use a crosswalk.
Jose Martin Flores-Lainez, 23, was driving an Oldsmobile Cutlass south on U.S. 41 when the pedestrian darted out in front of his car, officials said.
Flores-Lainez did not see the pedestrian in time and crashed head-on into the person, state troopers said.
The pedestrian died at the scene. Flores-Lainez, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured, but his car sustained about $1,000 in damage.
An investigation is ongoing.
