Pedestrian hit, killed by car in Town 'N Country

TOWN 'N COUNTRY — A 57-year-old Tampa man died Monday after he was hit by a car on W Hillsborough Avenue.

At almost 6 p.m., Barry T. Baker attempted to cross Hillsborough Avenue near Elliot Drive, walking into the path of a 1993 four-door Chevrolet driven by 25-year-old Shannon M. Cutter, also of Tampa, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Cutter tried to swerve out of Baker's way, but didn't move over in time.

Baker died at the scene, troopers said. Cutter and her passenger, 26-year-old Michael R. Ackerman, of Palm Harbor, had minor injuries.

Westbound Hillsborough was closed for about three hours while troopers investigated. No charges have been filed.
