Pedestrian, 71, struck and killed on State Road 54

A 71-year-old man was killed Monday night after, troopers say, he stepped into the path of a pickup.

The Ford F-150, driven by John Charles Ward, 32, of Wesley Chapel, was headed east in the center lane of State Road 54 about 8:58 p.m.

As he reached Livingston Road, a Florida Highway Patrol report states, Douglas Vernon Hendry walked northbound into the path of the F-150 and was hit. He died at the scene of the crash.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
