Pedestrian killed in Hillsborough Avenue crash in Tampa

TAMPA — Police have identified the woman who was killed after being stuck by a car early Tuesday.

The wreck was reported about 6:30 a.m. at 40th Street and Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa police said.

Claudia McFarlane, 56, was walking north on Hillsborough Avenue when she crossed six lanes midblock, police said.

Persylvia Singleton, 50, was driving a Ford Expedition and did not see McFarlane crossing the street because she was wearing dark clothing and it was still dark out.

She struck McFarlane, who died at the scene, police said.

The westbound lanes on Hillsborough Avenue remained closed for several hours as police investigated the crash. They were reopened by 9:30 a.m.

Singleton was not injured and did not appear to be at fault in the crash, police said.
