TAMPA — Officials released the name of a pedestrian who died after he was hit by a vehicle early Wednesday.

Harald Milde, 50, of 8601 Huron Court in Tampa, was struck near the intersection of N Dale Mabry Highway and W Humphrey Street.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say they have few leads as they look for the driver who hit him.

The man was hit in the northbound lanes of the highway, north of Waters Avenue, about 3 a.m., troopers said.

The crash amputated his leg, the FHP said.

Troopers said they do not know whether Milde was walking in the road or trying to cross it before the crash. There were no witnesses.

At the scene, troopers found broken glass and the front grille from a Volkswagen. They're looking for a Volkswagen with damage to its front end, a missing front grille and possibly a damaged windshield.

Authorities closed the northbound lanes of Dale Mabry while they investigated the scene, but those lanes have been reopened.

FHP asks anyone with information to call its Tampa office at (813) 631-4020.
