Accident investigators examine the scene where a man was killed Wednesday morning as he tried to cross Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard. [JIM DAMASKE | Times]

CLEARWATER — A man was killed Wednesday morning as he tried to cross Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, police said.

At about 5:30 a.m., a Chevrolet Trailblazer heading east struck Lionel L. Cauley, 36, as he darted into the street near the intersection of Skyview Avenue.

Cauley of Clearwater died at the scene. The driver, Jose Cruz Hernandez, will not face charges.
