ST. PETERSBURG — A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a car early Thursday, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported about 5:30 a.m., when a Ford F-250 was heading north on 49th Street N approaching 48th Avenue N.
A pedestrian was crossing the street from west to east and walked into the Ford's path, troopers said. The driver slowed down, but couldn't avoid hitting the pedestrian, who was not using a crosswalk.
The 56-year-old pedestrian, who was not identified Thursday morning, died at Northside Hospital, troopers said.
The driver, Floyd W. Clutter, 60, of St. Petersburg, was not injured.
An investigation was under way Thursday morning.
