Pedestrian suffers life-threatening injuries in Indian Rocks Beach crash

INDIAN ROCKS BEACH – A 66-year-old man was flown to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Wednesday night after he was hit by a car crossing Gulf Boulevard, deputies said.

George Strocco, of Indian Rocks Beach, was in the area of 8th Avenue when he was struck by a 2008 Volvo C70 driven by 72-year-old Connie Ford, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Strocco was not near a crosswalk, deputies said. Ford and her passengers were not injured.

The northbound lanes of Gulf Boulevard were closed for about three hours after the crash, according to the sheriff's office.

No further information was immediately available and an investigation is ongoing.
