BROOKSVILLE — A man suffered serious injuries Monday morning when his experimental aircraft crashed near a runway at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.

First responders found the 63-year-old pilot, whose name was not released, standing by the burning wreckage shortly after 10:30 a.m. He was flown to Tampa General Hospital.

Fire crews extinguished flames burning the plane and the surrounding woods. Authorities contacted the Federal Aviation Administration for further investigation.
