Pinellas Park man dies after riding on hood of SUV

WEBSTER — A Pinellas Park man died early Sunday after riding on the hood of a sport utility vehicle in Sumter County, authorities said.

About 3 a.m., Brian J. Bodlak, 32, was on the hood of the Chevrolet Suburban with Erik A. Mackus, 21, of Palm Harbor, heading east on SW 121st Avenue west of SW 50th Boulevard near Webster when Bodlak fell off.

He died at the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The driver, Jessica McCall, 32, of Pinellas Park, and two children, ages 1 and 4, also in the SUV were not injured, the patrol said.

The Florida Legislature passed a law in 2010 outlawing riding on the exterior of a car.

The incident remains under investigation.
