Pinellas Park man dies in Sumter County crash

ST. PETERSBURG — A Pinellas Park man died in a Sunday morning car crash in Sumter County, authorities said.

James Leo Murray, 42, died after his car flipped and then caught fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Murray had been driving east on State Road 50 just after 10 a.m. when his 2008 Toyota Corolla drifted toward the center of the road then veered sharply to the right, the patrol said.

The car hit trees along the road and flipped, coming to a rest upside down in the woods, with the back end of the car elevated by vines. Murray, who was not wearing a seat belt, was trapped, the patrol said.

He died at the scene from injuries from the crash and fire, the patrol said.
