Plant City pedestrian crossing Hillsborough Ave. is hit by semi, dies

PLANT CITY — A man died late Thursday when he was hit by a semitrailer truck as he attempted to cross Hillsborough Avenue.

The man, who was not immediately identified, was walking across the eastbound lanes of Hillsborough Avenue just east of Turkey Creek Road at about 10 p.m., trooper said. There are no lights nor crosswalks near that intersection.

As he crossed, the man walked into the path of a B&B Transportation semi from Haines City, troopers said.

The vehicle hit the man, who suffered fatal injuries, troopers said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further information was immediately available. An investigation remained under way early Friday morning.
