CLEARWATER — Police released the identity of a bicyclist who died Thursday night after a car hit him from behind on Drew Street near Evergreen Avenue.
Henry Rackard, 57, of Clearwater, was riding east on Drew Street just after 6:30 p.m. when he tried to cross from the north to the south side of the road, Clearwater police said. At the same time, Milton Lee Smallwood, 54, also of Clearwater, approached from behind in a 1994 Buick.
The car hit Rackard, who died at the scene, police said.
Alcohol might have been a factor in the collision, authorities said Friday. An investigation of the crash remains ongoing.
