Police identify pedestrian hit Monday in Clearwater

CLEARWATER — Police have identified a pedestrian who was hit by a truck while crossing Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard early Monday.

Ismael Hernandez-Rodriguez, who turned 30 Friday, was in serious condition Tuesday afternoon at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg.

Hernandez-Rodriguez was crossing the road near Saturn Avenue about 6 a.m. when he was struck by an eastbound Chevy Avalanche, Clearwater police said.

The driver of the Chevy, 50-year-old Patricia Syraski, pulled over and performed CPR on Hernandez-Rodriguez with help from a doctor who was passing by until paramedics arrived.

He was taken by helicopter to Bayfront, where he originally was listed in critical condition.

Police say Hernandez-Rodriguez, of Clearwater, walked into the path of Syraski's truck. She will not face any charges.
